ABOUT US
BLOCKCHOP™ began development in early 2018 and is designed and manufactured in the UK
Following 28 years in the construction industry and witness to the inefficiencies, injuries and mountains of waste material that arise from cutting blocks using traditional methods – the concept for BLOCKCHOP™ began.
Current methods, using tape measure, bolster & hammer, petrol or electric cutting discs or a guillotine, have a high risk of injuries and long-term health problems i.e. repetitive strain injury, COPD, lacerations, hearing loss and tinnitus.
Cutting blocks using these methods is difficult, time-consuming, and requires skill and/or training plus appropriate PPE. They are hazardous to health and create excess waste and so also have far-reaching economic and environmental consequences.
Between April 2021 and March 2022 just under 40,000 new build homes were built in the UK. This does not include extensions, factory units, commercial properties, garden walls etc.
Blockwork is the most common method for building due to the life cycle principles, durability, local availability and cost.
According to trade economics.com the UK construction market is expected to rise by 7% in 2023 and again by 2% in 2024.
Total construction output increased 12.7% in 2021 – the largest increase since records began, and there is still a housing shortage in the UK. The UK government has pledged to continue building 300,000 homes per year until the mid 2020’s.
Between 500 & 700 million blocks are produced in the UK every year, and a large proportion of these will require cutting.
Blocks are now recycled on building sites of all sizes – but this costs money and time, and uses more cement in the process. BLOCKCHOP™ reduces the need for waste management.
The cement industry is responsible for around 25% of all C02 emissions worldwide, we hope BLOCKCHOP™ will go some way towards reducing this huge environmental impact.
The price of construction materials has risen on average by 30% over the past 5 years, so along with fuel prices and delivery charges rising, saving money is paramount to the consumer and contractor.
BLOCKCHOP™ can also be used to cut thermal blocks, trench blocks, and be adapted to cut 140mm concrete blocks, bricks and precast stone products
So not only is the block cutting experience a lot safer, it's easier, faster, more precise, more economical, more sustainable, and very durable.
It is also relatively inexpensive with regards to outlay, requires no training or safety certificates, and requires little to no maintenance unlike other techniques, plus zero running costs.
On site, BLOCKCHOP™ allows the cutting of blocks to be carried out by anyone, as it requires no previous experience, training or certificates – freeing the time of the skilled block layers.
Replacement blades and parts for BLOCKCHOP™ are available to allow the continued use of the system.
Try it and let us know what you think.
